Pixel 10 Pro Is Stuck at 15W Wireless Charging – Here's Google's Excuse

As many of you know by now, all Google Pixel 10 series smartphones support Qi2 wireless charging. Not only that, but they also come with built-in magnets. Only the Pixel 9 Pro XL supports 25W wireless charging, however, and Google has decided to explain why the same is not the case with the Pixel 10 Pro.

Before we get into what Google said, let's just get all our facts straight. The Pixel 9 Pro XL supports the Qi2.2 standard, which allows it to support charging speeds of up to 25W. The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are limited to 15W with Qi2.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL charges faster than the Pixel 10, and Google provides an explanation.

With that being said, a Google spokesperson has decided to clear the air in a statement to Android Central and explain why the Pixel 10 Pro doesn't support Qi2.2. And yes, you guessed it, it's the heat. Larger phones can dissipate heat more easily, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL is considerably larger than the Pixel 10 Pro.

What's interesting is that both smartphones do come with vapor chamber cooling, but it seems like Google didn't think that's enough to offer 25W wireless charging in the Pixel 10 Pro.

The spokesperson did not really touch upon wired charging, but the Pixel 10 Pro XL also supports faster wired charging. It comes with 45W wired charging compared to 30W wired charging. The Pixel 10 Pro XL can, allegedly, reach a 70% charge in 30 minutes. The Pixel 10 Pro can get to 50% in that same amount of time.

Heat is also the reason why the larger phone supports faster wired charging, we're guessing.

We're guessing that heat is also the reason why the smaller Pixel 10 Pro supports slower wired charging. While this does kind of make sense, it's difficult to ignore Chinese smartphones. Even smaller devices from various Chinese Android OEMs support 100W+ wired and 50W wireless charging.

That sheer fact makes Google's excuse a bit... fishy. Those Chinese OEMs do have proprietary tech, though, so... it is what it is. This is an improvement for Pixels either way, not to mention that we have magnets this time around, so... that's a win. It's unfortunate that theThe Battery Share feature was removed, though.
